Theresa Russell Counselling
Counsellor based in Lyme Regis, West Dorset and Axminster, East Devon

Hello and a very warm welcome to my website which provides details about my professional counselling and psychotherapy service.

Are you:
Finding life challenging, struggling with problems and personal issues?
Feeling overwhelmed, anxious and stressed by the difficulties?
Wanting to build resilience and find new strategies for coping?
Seeking a non-judgemental counsellor to listen and offer support?

I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP) and work within their Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions, formally adopted 1st July, 2018. I have an entry in the Counselling Directory which is a database of UK counsellors and psychotherapists who are members of a recognised professional body.

I am an integrative counsellor and psychotherapy practitioner which means I incorporate a wide variety of proven talking therapy approaches and techniques into my work with clients, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), as appropriate.

I provide ongoing face-to-face counselling and psychotherapy, as well as telephone counselling, on a short, medium or long-term basis which can be arranged for a fixed, or open-ended period of time.

My practice venues are within easy reach of Lyme Regis, Charmouth and Bridport in West Dorset, as well as Axminster, Seaton, Colyton and Honiton in East Devon and Chard and Crewkerne in South Somerset.

If you are currently facing a difficult time, feeling stressed, and finding it hard to cope then well done for owning your vulnerability and having the courage to take the first step in seeking help. Throughout our therapeutic relationship, I will guide and support you in working your way through your thoughts and feelings. I will help you to deal with whatever problems are troubling you. This will enable you to manage things differently and develop new strategies for coping and dealing with your current situation. It doesn't matter if you have had counselling before, benefitted from it and are now looking for more sessions, or you are new to talking therapy and seeking it for the very first time. Your road to recovery starts here!

I work from a peaceful, designated consulting room in Uplyme, near to Lyme Regis in West Dorset. The venue is in a semi-rural setting in East Devon and has off-road parking with easy access by road to the A35.

I can also access a quiet therapy room in Axminster, East Devon, at the Health and Wellbeing Centre. The Centre is situated in Chard Street on the A358. There is a Pay and Display car park approximately 50 metres from the Centre in Poplar Mount, Chard Street. Axminster is well served by bus services which all stop in Trinity Square which is approximately 5 minutes walk from the Centre.

Where there are special circumstances, I can offer an outreach home visit service to clients living within a ten mile radius of Lyme Regis and Axminster.

Outreach home visits can be suitable for clients requiring counselling:
    - who are elderly
    - who are infirm or disabled
    - who are housebound
    - who have regular caring commitments

In addition, I provide telephone counselling to anyone over 18 and who lives in the UK.

Telephone counselling is proving increasingly popular and can be an effective way for us to work together when it is not possible to meet face-to-face for a number of reasons. It can give you easy access to my professional counselling service from the comfort of your own home, at a time which is convenient for you.

Telephone counselling can be suitable for clients:
    - who lead busy lives and would find it more convenient
    - who live in more remote areas
    - who find it challenging to leave their home
    - who find face to face counselling difficult

I operate flexible contact hours with appointments to suit clients throughout the day. This includes some regular early evening slots which are available by arrangement.

Please do not hesitate to ask for further details about any aspect of my professional counselling and psychotherapy service.

    My Counselling Approach

As a professionally qualified and experienced counsellor, I will bring warmth, sensitivity, awareness, compassion and humour to the development of a confidential, relaxed and trusting therapeutic relationship with you.

I will provide you with a regular, safe, private shared space in which we can explore together, as counsellor and client, your thoughts and feelings and how they impact your current attitudes, behaviour and general health and wellbeing.

I will listen attentively, and with patience, to what you have to say; show you empathy, respect and acceptance without making any judgement of you or your situation.

I will support you in finding your own insights and understanding of your difficulties so you can move forward, through any feelings of stuckness that you may be experiencing, and bring about the change you desire.

I will enable, and encourage, you to solve your own problems; gain confidence in yourself to deal with any future life challenge which may occur, and help you build resilience, including a range of strategies for coping.
